Burkina Faso Says Gold Mining Has Generated US$18 Billion Since 2022
Burkina Faso’s transitional government has announced that the country’s gold mining sector has generated approximately US$18 billion in revenue since Captain Ibrahim Traoré took power in September 2022. The government says the increase follows reforms aimed at giving the state greater control over the country’s mineral resources, including the nationalisation of several gold mining assets and tighter regulation of the industry.
Gold remains Burkina Faso’s most valuable export and a major contributor to the nation’s economy. Government officials say the revenue will support infrastructure development, public services, and economic growth, although analysts continue to call for transparency in how mining income is managed and distributed.
